Unexpected Blessings

One year ago we were hopeful that right now we would be holding our new child, watching him or her play with Braden and enjoying all the joys and trials of two children. Here we are though, still waiting to get that first glimpse of our future baby. I must say that although there have been times of anger, confusion and uncertainty, I look back over the last year with thankfulness. God has allowed so much growth and maturity in this time and has deepened our faith that we can honestly say we would not trade this waiting.
There has been information surfacing in the news regarding Russia's decision to close adoption to the USA. According to the US State Department and The Joint Counsel of International Children's Affairs this is not accurate. The head of Russia's Foreign Ministry has been threatening to seek this closure since a women sent her son back to Russia on an airplane in 2010. They want the US to ensure more oversight and feel that our government has not done this yet. The Foreign Ministry does not have the right to stop adoptions although some regions and judges have refused to grant custody until a firm decision is made. Many believe they are waiting for the Presidential election to take place in March. It is expected that Putin will win and restore adoption as he has been an advocate of international adoption in the past. A new treaty with stricter requirements is expected to be signed this spring.
While it is not great news we are certain that God is in control and all will work according to His plan. Just a few weeks ago we were told that we are next on the waiting list so we expect our referral shortly after the election. It is possible that we will not be able to travel until after tax season so we would love your prayers with the timing of everything.
Our hearts and prayers go out the families that have already met their children and were waiting for court. I can't imagine the stress they must feel.

  2. Just found your blog. Would be interested in liaising with you. We are also officially waiting for our referral from Khabarovsk Region and we we're hoping and praying you had received a referral since your last post in February. Perhaps even a trip or two.

Hope to chat with you soon and till then, best of luck.
